Thomas M. Pellis founded Pellis Homes incorporated in 1966. A carpenter by trade, he realized at the young age of 26 years old that there was a place in the home building market for custom homes crafted by skilled tradesman.
Tom's vision for The Company was to build custom homes of enduring quality and value in which customers could raise their families. Today, hundreds of families call their Pellis-built house their home.
Design-build is in the DNA of the company, as Tom developed his drafting skills with the help of his brother Joseph L Pellis, Architect. The tradition of incorporating quality designs into each Pellis Home is an essential reason that the "Pellis-built" is used in the marketing efforts when a Pellis home is up for resale.
In his spare time, Tom decided to take up fly fishing. His passion to always be the best led him to open an Orvis Store where he taught others how to tie intricate fly patterns. Several of the fly patterns that he created have been published in books related to the sport.
Later in life, he took up the art of carving and painting duck decoys. He forged friendships with world famous carvers, who helped him learn the craft. Always in pursuit of perfection, he became a World Champion decoy carver himself. Today, his decoys grace the mantels in Pellis Homes and others, to be enjoyed for years to come!
One of Tom's favorite sayings was "you learn by doing". Tom is proof that you can accomplish great things when you set your mind to it and assert the appropriate amount of effort. His words and work ethic continue to be honored around the office some 56 years later. In his memory, we continually strive to improve our process and procedures in pursuit of perfection.
